The President's Corner

Hello fellow literacy friends

First of all, for those of you who don't know me, I am originally from Labrador but am now living in Kippens. I have been involved in the field of literacy in some capacity, since 1991 and I am looking forward to serving the province as president of NLLLC for the next two years. On behalf of NLLLC I would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Monnie Moores our past president, and Bessie Merrigan who has spent many years volunteering for our organization. Also, thank you to all of our tutor volunteers across the province, who tirelessly work to better the lives of those around them. You are much appreciated and our organization would not exist without you.

In closing I would like to encourage all our students to continue learning, for learning is power.

Yours in Literacy,
Wanda

Happy Retirement Bessie!

BESSIE
MERRIGAN

One of our longest-serving volunteers has retired after contributing over 30 years of her life to helping people learn to read and write. As one of the province's leading advocates and dedicated volunteers for literacy, Bessie Merrigan has contributed greatly to the literacy movement locally, provincially and nationally. She has served on national and provincial Laubach organizations and has been involved with the Humber Literacy council since 1989. We extend a sincere thank-you to Bessie for her many years of service and wish her a happy retirement. She will be missed by many.
